Panama City Police department releases Homeless report

Panama City Deputy Chief Scott Ervin completed his report on the homeless and vagrant problem in downtown Panama City on Nov. 11th. In his report he commented that ” Between July of 2010 and June of 2011, Panama City Police Officers responded to 504 calls at the Panama City Rescue Mission, making 72 arrests. They responded to the nearby grocery outlet 287 times making 62 arrests. Say this cost thousands of dollars.”It does have a cost to the taxpayer and unfortunately with in that area it did have a higher level of calls for service in comparison to other geographic areas,” said Ervin. This volume of arrest is more than 15% of ALL police calls for the PC police department during this period of time. Can you imagine the uproar that any other business, facility or organization would receive from the community if it had that many police calls or that many arrest? Why does the community have a double standard in allowing the rescue mission to gobble up police and tolerate such an overwhelming amount of criminal activity? Where is the outrage?
